The Lithuanian Highway Administration (LAKD) shares the list of major road repairs planned in the country. Includes repairs to the state-owned roads Via Baltica, A1 Vilnius-Kaunas-Klaipeda and other roads.

According to LAKD in a letter sent to tv3.lt, most of the repairs will be unfinished in 2020. It is important to note that the budget for the road maintenance and development program has not yet been approved, so the list is subject to changes. Traffic restrictions will be announced on the eismoinfo.lt website.

Via Baltica

Almost the major road repairs will continue on Via Baltica. Already in 2020. The design of the 40 km long section from Marijampolė to the border with Poland, started in 2021, will continue in 2021. The A5 Kaunas – Marijampolė – Suwałki road section will be designed from 56.83 to 97.06 km .

2019 At the end of the year, after the Government approved the reconstruction plan for this section, the procedures for acquiring land began. Once the design and land acquisition procedures are finalized, contracting works on this stretch are expected to begin in 2022 and will be completed by the end of 2025.

The reconstruction aims to ensure the safety and comfort of traffic. This lane will be equipped with four lanes with a speed limit of 130 km / h. speed. Connecting roads, dividing lanes, intersections of different levels will also be installed.

According to preliminary estimates, this project will cost about 300 million. euros.

A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipeda

No less important works are planned on the A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda highway. The construction of a new bridge over the Neris is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2021. A viaduct should be built over Jonava Street, as well as the reconstruction of two bridges of A. Meškinis (Kleboniškis) one after another. Bridge repairs are scheduled to be completed in 2023-2024.

In 2021, the so-called Giraitė crossing (reconstruction of the section A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda from 102.90 to 107.00 km) will also be managed. LAKD considers this to be one of the most dangerous intersections on the state highway network. LAKD says that the implementation of the project will improve traffic safety in this section and reduce the risk of traffic accidents.

“After the reconstruction of the mentioned section, the crossing of a level will be eliminated, eliminating the possibility of collisions, connecting roads will be built and other engineering measures will be installed to guarantee road safety and adequate traffic organization. To take care of the safety of pedestrians, a pedestrian viaduct will be installed near the town of Giraitė, “he writes in a letter from LAKD tv3.lt.

Reconstruction work will also continue on highway A1 from 10 to 95 km. Work on the individual sections has already been completed, but the whole project should be finished by next year. The project also aims to ensure safe and comfortable traffic conditions in line with the volume of traffic, the importance of the road and international standards.

During the implementation of this project, metal protection barriers will be replaced on the dividing strip on the section of the Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda highway from Vilnius to Kaunas, wild animal net fences will be installed in part of the highway sections. Acceleration and deceleration lanes are also being rebuilt, sidewalks and crossings are being installed at different levels. Speed control systems, lighting and other works will also be developed.

As LAKD says, the goal of the job is to ensure that the intensity of the trail is safe.

“Only after ensuring the necessary technical and safety requirements and when the road complies with the requirements applicable to the highway, will it be possible to drive it at a speed of 130 km / h in summer and 110 km / h in winter,” says LAKD.

More speed control will be installed on highway A1

Until 2021 In September 49 new speed warning and control systems will be installed on the section of the Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaip highway from Vilnius to Kaunas. It is part of the reconstruction of the highway in accordance with the requirements for highways.

“Warning and speed control systems consist of electronic variable information (VAR) traffic signs, meteorological sensors that record the condition of the road surface, temperature, wind force and other parameters, as well as monitoring devices. traffic flow analyzes that calculate traffic flows at specific road locations, “says LAKD. .

KIŽ is one of the main devices in this system, which acts as video screens. They will display speed limit and warning traffic signs as well as inform road users about changes in weather conditions. The systems that receive the data from these devices will “decide” the speed limits and road users will be informed immediately with the help of the CIU.

KIŽ will also warn drivers about work in progress, traffic accidents and other obstacles on the road.

Will manage the Fern Viaduct

As LAKD says, in 2021. It is also planned to maintain the Paparčiai viaduct (A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda) in Vievis on the A1 highway. The level crossing and connecting roads will also be rebuilt, additional infrastructure for pedestrians and bicyclists will be installed, and barriers will be installed to reduce noise.

“Currently, there are 3 unsafe four-way intersections at this location, the traffic organization is confusing, there is no infrastructure for pedestrians and bicycle paths. The viaduct is in poor condition. These works are scheduled to start in 2021, ”says LAKD.

Job

Asphalt gravel roads

2021 The program for the paving of gravel roads of state importance will also continue. The full list of roads to be paved can be found here. Gravel roads marked in gray until 2022. must be paved.

“The roads of state importance belonging to the Road Administration for asphalt are selected according to the selection methodologies of gravel sections and the established selection criteria, that is, if there is public transport or not, if additional traffic will be generated, places of interest, annual average traffic intensity, route completion, municipal priorities, etc. ”, says LAKD.

The asphalting of gravel roads will be carried out based on the amount of funds allocated and the list of gravel roads asphalting.

Bridges and road safety

2021 It is planned to pay more attention than before to the installation of road safety infrastructure (roundabouts, modern pedestrian crossings, pedestrian and bicycle lanes, etc.) and the repair and reconstruction of bridges.

“SE Lithuania Road Administration will continue to inspect all bridges and viaducts every year to make timely decisions on the changing state of structures and thus constantly reduce the number of buildings in poor condition. Both for the installation of road safety infrastructure and for the repair and reconstruction of bridges in 2021. it is planned to allocate at least 20 million. euros, ”says LAKD.

Job

It will cooperate with the municipalities

LAKD 2021 plans to continue cooperation with municipalities and invite them to implement more joint projects.

“Given that the works are usually carried out according to the approved priority queues, which are made public, there is the possibility of carrying out various works in cooperation with the municipalities, eg. Eg for the installation of pedestrian and bicycle lanes, lighting, inspection and simple repair of roads, etc. to start earlier, if the municipalities also contribute their own budgetary funds ”, comments LAKD.

2020 December. According to the data, SE Lithuania Road Administration and the country’s municipalities have signed more than 150 cooperation agreements.
