“Research shows that isolation has an impact on all parts of human existence: biological, psychological, social,” said E. Laurinaitis.

The psychotherapist criticized the term “social isolation”, which he said was misleading.

“We don’t have to be socially isolated from each other, on the contrary, we have to try to maintain and maybe even increase those social connections, but we have to be physically isolated from each other. This is how it should be formulated: physical isolation, social integration ”Said E. Laurinaitis.

According to him, the researchers calculated that “the stress we experience in isolation is detrimental to health, as if a non-smoker had started smoking fifteen cigarettes a day.”

He stressed the need to select sources of information

The psychotherapist has observed that in this situation there are cases in which people do not know or do not hear enough scientific information.

“There is a lot of ignorance in their heads, it is replaced by various rumors and false knowledge. Many theories of finger break are spreading nowadays. It is necessary to try to find a reliable, clear and scientific source of information, not to try to scan the entire Internet” E. Laurinaitis said.

The psychotherapist recommended that people who work from home structure their space and time: where there is work and where there is leisure and family life. How much time do I spend on the job and how much on other things?

“Structure is very important in restoring psychological balance,” said E. Laurinaitis.

According to the psychotherapist, it is important to know not to work too hard.

“There are enthusiasts who, when at home, feel great guilt for not working very well, we need more,” said E. Laurinaitis.

According to the psychotherapist, another important skill that not all of us have developed is the ability to concentrate.

Psychotherapists have changed the details of the job.

The psychotherapist said that his profession also had to adapt and start working remotely during the pandemic. He was pleased that the European Psychotherapy Association was the first to publish a professional textbook on how to work in such conditions.

He also mentioned that the details of the work of mental health professionals have now changed: the focus is not on psychotherapy, but on crisis intervention, which would help a person cope with the current situation.

The psychotherapist mentioned that 150 of his colleagues are gathered and ready to provide free assistance to doctors and their families. It can be requested through the website medo.lt.

According to E. Laurinaitis, so far there are more donors than those who want to receive it. The specialist encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

The quarantine was introduced in Lithuania on March 16. It currently runs until May 11, but the period can be extended. Quarantine conditions have started to decrease since mid-April.

The government reviews quarantine conditions every week. The areas to be discussed at this Wednesday’s meeting have yet to be revealed.
