According to Edita Zdanevičienė, representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD), the liquidation of the fire was announced at 3.15 pm.

At the General Assistance Center at 1:14 pm, a report was received about a truck with a burning gas tank on Normandijos-Nemuno street.

E.Zdanevičienė informed BNS that the burning gas tank was connected to the gas column, there were three more trucks with gas nearby.

“A large number of firefighters were sent to the event: seven tankers, autopaders. Police assistance was also requested to restrict traffic on the nearby, well-traveled road, ”said E. Zdanevičienė.

According to E. Zdanevičienė, there are no residential houses near the column, the residents were not in danger.

A report released by Amber Grid claims that the fire occurred in the evaporator of a gas carrier that supplied gas to the Alytus gas distribution station. The equipment belongs to the Polish company Duon.

The fire broke out during the planned connection of the branch of the international GIPL gas pipeline to the Lithuanian gas transmission system.

“As a result of these works, after disconnecting the main pipeline to the Alytus gas distribution station, gas was supplied to gas consumers in the Alytus district from a special liquefied natural gas carrier delivered from Poland for three days.” the company said.

Before entering the pipeline, the liquefied gas evaporates in a special evaporator, causing a fire.

According to Amber Grid, gas continues to be supplied to Alytus consumers.

It is clarified whether all safety requirements have been met during work.
