The woman located in the Trakai district jokes that she never wanted a garden and flower gardens; He’s a complete city man, but when the situation changed, he moved to live near the woods and now his 30-acre garden is people-friendly. eye.
“My husband and I are from bone to teeth to horns from Vilnius, living in apartment buildings. Perhaps we would have lived longer, but then the situation arose that a fifth child was born, then we realized that there was little space, we needed more rooms, there was no space. We started looking around Trakai, looking for it not to be too far from Vilnius and moving to one, practically, a single farm, ”the woman smiles, remembering the reluctance that has now become a hobby.

The rules are dictated by the conditions
For nine years, the woman who created the garden has not hidden that at first she did everything as she liked, taking ideas from various magazines, but over time everything took on a different meaning, which pushed her. to study landscape design.
“I can’t say that exactly how it seemed to me: I actually bought magazines, I looked at them, I was interested in where I saw things, I tried to do things myself. But basically it was inconsistent to do something like that.
Then it became my hobby and plants, creating a patio took on a completely different meaning, an impulse, I became more interested, I joined landscape design, I am currently studying. The transformations are constant, every time they arrive. During those years, as much as I did, both fashion and opportunities have changed, ”said J. Sėjūnaitė.
There are no rules to create the beauty of your garden; is convinced that the rules in different places are dictated by the growing conditions:
“I go, I am interested, I look, I try to adapt in my garden, but basically, I would say, I do not follow the rules, I am only to break the rules and there can be no rules, because we are all different. A lot dictates where we are, what we want, what are our needs, opportunities, if we want to take care of the plants or not, here are the rules “.
The main thing that the woman herself trusts and urges others not to forget is that man should apply to nature, not nature to man.
“The basic rule is that we must not have and grow what we want, we must grow what we grow. I live in the sand dunes, that was my first big mistake: coming here underestimated what the soil was like and I thought roses and peonies would grow here This is not the case in the sand, neither roses nor peonies grow ”, said the interlocutor.
Plants also grow in sand.
The woman laughs that the conditions for the plants in her garden are almost the worst, because the soil is sandy, it does not retain moisture and it leaches organic matter. However, this has not stopped and now the garden has conifers, bluebells and countless others who like it and like it here.
“The soil is problematic, but it can really grow and there is a whole group of plants that don’t like soaking, that like bad conditions and are lurking in them, like bell plants. I put them in the sand, never watered and they buzz, reaching incredible heights and sizes. We can be fashionable, stylish and beautiful in the middle of the sand, ”says happy J. Sėjūnait happy.
Naturalness is important in the Jurgit garden, so there is no need for coordination here, just don’t grow evergreens, just herbaceous ones. And the colors here are as diverse as those seen in the meadows: pink, yellow, white, blue, and many more.
In flower gardens, a setting is needed, so here Jurgita takes into account the colors, he has a monochromatic nursery, completely yellow, in the background of the forest – white, because only he can see. However, she is convinced that there are no rules here either, and the chosen color is very individual.
“There is no single rule with colors, because if you live in a dark gray or black fence, I would unequivocally say that there should be a light color in the background of the fence. And if you live near a lot of asphalt and gray pavement, it’s quite pretty and brightly colored. Color is something very individual. “
Properly organized, no special care is required
A garden is a living organism that is constantly changing, and landscape fashion changes faster than clothing. Jurgita says that she can’t imagine every year without at least minimal changes, like changing the colors of the plant combinations. The details of furniture and decoration are also important:
“I don’t go around the house to the other side, I don’t exaggerate the blocks or the doors on the other side (laughs). But I definitely change the colors of the outdoor furniture, terraces, decoration, textile elements, and in no way ”.
When asked if garden maintenance is time-consuming, the woman says that if you have a lawn or flower garden, care is needed, but if the plants are properly arranged, larger jobs will only need to be done here once a anus.
“I would say that care is required in any case, even if you do not have flower beds and plants, you will have grass, it also needs watering, pruning, aeration. I would say that if there is properly organized greenery in the yard, they just require less maintenance.
It should not be the case that if there is a flower garden, everything is sold in summer. A properly planted flower garden, if it is densely planted and still covered with mulch, it is possible to do nothing there during the season, in autumn or spring just to cut the above-ground part and continue to enjoy ”, advises J. Sėjūnait with a smile
Jurgita waters some plants in conditions of extreme heat, where the work is facilitated by an irrigation system. The lawn was not watered at all, it was planted with dobiliuk, many of which tremble, and even during the most intense heat it turns green.
“Irrigation, of course, must be done at all times when there is no direct sunlight. If we pour water in the sun, the leaves can burn. It is best to do it very early in the morning or very late at night.
Another thing that many forget is the unspoiled nature, especially conifers and evergreens in late fall. If it is cold and there is no snow, the frequent death of the plants is not due to the cold, but to the fact that it has not been touched in autumn ”, warns the interlocutor.
Fertilizers – natural
Now the woman with a smile remembers that as soon as she began to create a garden, she fertilized plants with synthetic fertilizers for several years, but now her attitude is completely different – fertilize plants with organic fertilizers that are as natural as possible.
“There are many organic compounds, everything that comes out of the compost, I use organic fertilizers. There are definitely organic fertilizers that can be used to fertilize. The good thing is that they are durable, they can be applied at any time, even in late autumn, and they will begin to work and breed microorganisms only in early spring, when the soil temperature reaches a certain degree, “said the woman about fertilization.
One of the secrets of beautiful flower beds is padding. But not with purchased mulch, but with waste that decomposes and enriches the soil with nutrients. It may seem like it will ruin the aesthetic look, but in reality it is not.
“When someone asks me where my compost is, my compost is my flower garden. They often grow dill and squash, tomatoes and cucumbers when kitchen waste is dumped into flower beds. Hide all this under the leaves, covered with dirt or straw, cut grass. It cannot be seen, and the earth retains moisture better, the granulometric composition changes, because everything happens little by little ”, shares the interlocutor.
Garden ash is also used to alkalize the soil, because garden soil is acidic. And the best thing in spring and early summer, if you can get it, is rotten manure.
When asked if he has any advice for those who want to create a garden but don’t know where to start, Jurgita emphasizes that you will be spending time in the garden first, so make sure it is nice to your heart and eyes.
“No one knows better than ourselves how we should do it. Clearly, you need to do your homework, take an interest, and receive guidance. But basically, we are ourselves and we are the creators, we create our own patio, it is not a public space. For some public spaces, there are rules, innovative solutions, because we want to be modern, elegant, keep up with the general context.
But in our garden, as at home, there are completely different rules. To please, first of all, it must be for ourselves, it must be cozy, good. I honestly say you can do anything, just do a little homework. “
