The photo accompanying the post shows a dish that, according to the blogger, the woman received last week: a meat dumpling, vegetables and a few pieces of butter.
The publication received more than a thousand comments and hundreds of shares; Some people resented that the food served to their mother was inappropriate and began to share in the comments the experience they had while lying down in hospitals.
Other Internet users submitted their versions that the photo captured food that they may have already eaten. There were also those who considered that such a dish could be given to a child instead of a mother.
When the news portal tv3.lt contacted the blogger, he assured that the woman who shared this photo with him informed him that they had served him this type of food and that the boy had received oatmeal puree.
The plate was for the child, not for the mother
Karolina Račkauskienė, chief specialist of the Communication Service of LSMUL Kaunas Clinics, commented to the news portal tv3.lt that the photo shared by the blogger captured only part of the patient’s lunch, in addition, this meal was not served to the mother but according to the blogger.
“The photo does not show the food intended for the mother, but for the patient from 1 to 3 years old. In addition, in the photo you can only see part of the patient’s lunch: soup, vegetables, tea are not seen”, gives the answer the hospital representative.
The specialist adds that such a lunch is served to a child on a special ketogenic diet.
“The patient is on a ketogenic diet that included a beef dumpling with stewed vegetables, fresh cabbage soup, some avocado and tea that day for lunch.
The butter is served separately at the request of the mother. One part had to be in the soup, the other in the vegetable stew, ”the hospital responded.
According to the representatives of the Kaunas clinics, this therapeutic diet is very specific, because the amount of fat is several times higher than usual.
“A ketogenic diet is therapeutic and very specific. The fat ratio is 4 times higher than the combined protein and carbohydrate content (4: 1) ”, explain the hospital specialists.
Representatives of the Kaunas clinics also assured that this situation had been discussed with the baby’s mother and that the patient had no complaints about the hospital’s diet.
The news portal tv3.lt contacted the blogger “Riebus katinas” again and asked her for the contact details of the woman who sent this photo to confirm that she had no complaints about the hospital’s diet. A response was received from the blogger that, to his knowledge, the hospital staff had not contacted the woman and she herself refused to communicate with the media and comment further on the situation.
