Kindness Initiatives One After Another
D. Galdikaitė, who had to volunteer in the social services sector, had the idea to greet the elderly in an unexpected way, without baking pancakes … The young woman recalled that during Mardi Gras she had mixed dough and baked delicious pancakes from yeast, there were so many many of them that I wanted to please others. The idea was born in Palangiškės to bring the delicacies to the old people’s home in the city of Palanga and share them with the grandparents.
“Driving home, I was so happy with this good job that I thanked myself for sharing it with my grandparents. There was a desire in the heart to do something special.
Thus, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the idea “Give a flower to all the women in the Palanga nursing home” came to fruition. Even now, I am very grateful to everyone who contributed to this campaign. After receiving the photos of the Palanga nursing home, I saw smiles in the eyes of the women, gratitude, warmth and I shared all of this with the people of Palanga, ”says the woman.
Now Palangiškės wishes to expand the kindness campaign so that residents of all Lithuanian nursing homes can feel the celebration during Mother’s Day.
“It just came to our attention then. The kindness initiative” Give a flower to MOM from a nursing home “has already been announced in five Lithuanian cities. Palanga, Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Panevėžys are included in this list of initiatives from goodness “, the woman is happy to find like-minded people who have agreed to implement this campaign in their cities. Those who want to contribute can find information on social media.
All our moms
According to D. Galdikaitė, the grandparents who spend their days in the nursing home are the mothers of our mothers who grew up, they gave us a start, they taught us everything as they understood that it was correct and necessary.
“Infinite gratitude to each elderly person, whether they live in their own home or in a nursing home, is important and loved by each of them. It is very important to show care, respect for the elderly. It doesn’t matter if they bother you or bother you, without them we wouldn’t be us. That is, as long as we are alive and well, let us share our kindness with everyone, especially those who find it extremely difficult to take care of themselves, ”smiles Palangiškė.
The woman hopes that this kindness initiative “Give a flower to MOM from a nursing home” will become a Lithuanian tradition, and every year there will be more and more people who will join the wonderful campaign, and finally all the grandmothers of the Lithuanian nursing homes receive flowers, a word, respect, warmth and affection.
39 grandparents live in the old people’s home in the city of Palanga. If more flowers can be collected, it is planned to donate them to the elderly who are in the hospitals of the city of Palanga.
“Therefore, public participation in this initiative of kindness is very important. The more we are, the greater the number of elders who we can greet, rejoice, make even more special on Mother’s Day.
Personally I will be waiting for anyone who wants to contribute to this initiative but does not have the opportunity to go on May 2, from 10 am to 12 pm Central Town Square. Anything goes, be it a ring of flowers, a bouquet, a handmade postcard, or a box of sweets, cookies, fruits, ”says the woman.
On Sunday May 2, in Palanga, pots will be taken out and built near the old people’s home (Klaipėdos pl. 74), where people will be able to bring and wet flowers.
Last year, 70 women were congratulated for the kindness initiative “Give a flower to all the women of the Palanga nursing home.”
