The Commission for the Calculation of Loss of Damage Caused by Hunting in Agricultural, Livestock and Forest Crops received a request on April 17 for the evaluation and compensation of the damage caused by the wolves.

Head of the Municipality’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Specialist Neringa Adomavičienė said that a farmer from the village of Radiškės had requested the commission.

He reported that on April 16, a wolf had just killed a calf on his cattle farm.

Although quarantine and most professionals currently work remotely, remote inspections are not possible. After all, it is necessary to inspect the carcasses on the spot, look for traces of wolves, take photos, write an inspection report.

Then the commission went to the scene. He was convinced that he was smart after the gray fall around Radiškis, because the farmer’s cattle were surrounded by a three-lane herder. The wolf still managed to get to the prey and killed the calf one day.

The farmers who lived in the Siesikai elder also suffered from wolves this spring: they reported that they had killed a goat. However, N. Adomavičienė said the commission did not assess this damage because human goats are not registered, so they cannot expect compensation.

According to naturalists, domestic cattle are under attack by lone wolves looking for light prey. Such cases are isolated. Most wolf damage reports will be in mid-summer. The wolves then begin training the wolves in hunting skills.

Wolves are protected animals, so the damage caused by them is compensated by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Commission for the calculation of the loss of damage caused by game animals from the municipality of the Ukmergė district to agricultural crops, livestock and forests will provide the Ministry with all the documents collected on such damages.

However, the commission also evaluates other losses suffered by farmers. One of them is the damage caused by ungulates.

This year, on March 17, such a message was received from Elder Lyduokiai. Deer and deer are reported to have entered the seedling farm and the bark of the fingers and other trees.

On April 1, rapeseed crops were reported in fields located in the territory of two elders. The rapeseed producer observes that damage to hunted animals is done permanently in their fields.

These losses are compensated by the hunting clubs and the clubs in whose territory the events are recorded, so the commission will provide all the collected documents to the hunters.
