Sigita and Nerijus Žilinskai, farmers from Kunioniai village in Kėdainiai district, are happy to have the first harvest this year, but keep in mind that this year’s harvest is delayed compared to last year.

“There is no sun, snow, rain and the strawberries do not ripen. Last year, on April 23, I was already collecting gifts for my mother, and this year a good week or even two strawberries were late, ”explains S.Žilinskienė.

The Kunioniai strawberry growers are known throughout the country and compete strongly with other Lithuanian growers. For several years in a row, they have been able to ripen the red cheek berries first across the country.

People are impatient

Strawberries say that people are eager and eager for the first berries. The circle of customers is constantly expanding every year, many of the so-called own customers appear.

“In the winter, people would call and ask when there would be strawberries. I keep saying no yet, wait still. We usually call ourselves, we know that we grow berries with a lot of love and care ”, says the strawberry grower.

Recognized farmers

The Kunioniai strawberry growers are known throughout the country and compete strongly with other Lithuanian growers. For several years in a row, they have been able to ripen red cheek berries first across the country. Kunioniškės strawberries are grown in greenhouses, so the outside temperature has little effect.

N.Žilinskas is a constipated and hard-working farmer. The man does most of the work with his own hands. Žilinskai doesn’t even hire employees. When necessary, both children and the older generation help.

Known abroad

Žilinskai, who has a 7-hectare farm, is well known not only in the Kėdainiai region, but also abroad. Farmers grow not only huge strawberries, but also bamboo.

Bamboos, grown in the village of Kunioniai and still cultivated and ornamented in Denmark, decorate the courtyards of houses in southern European countries: Spain, Italy, France and even southern Germany. Initially, farmers grew herbs, strawberry seedlings, ornamental willows.
