The first crocuses bloomed in Juodkrante: soon up to 160 thousand people will exhale. sea ​​of ​​flowers

The sea of ​​crocuses in Juodkrante expands every year. Members of the village community plant around 50,000 trees each year. and more of these flowers, and he hopes that in two years the ultimate goal of decorating a stretch of coastline approximately one kilometer long will be achieved.

“This is an initiative of the Juodkrante community, conceived, dreamed of, because we continue to express our discontent because there are almost no flowers in Juodkrante. This is how we decided that we would flourish and admire at least in the spring, ”says Sandra Berletaitė, the president of the community.

She estimates that last fall was the fourth time the community came together to help plant flowers.

“In the first year, we planted only 5,000, to try, in another place, to see what happens. And now we are planting 50-53 thousand, this fall we planted 57 thousand. Such a dream is to plant about a kilometer of dock, from one stop to another. We have exceeded more than half, there are two stages left and we must achieve our goal, “said the interlocutor.

According to her, it is the crocuses that are chosen because they do not require much care, because no one has enough time to care for demanding flowers.

“In autumn, when we have time, we plant them and in spring we admire them. When it’s time to mow, both folds are already blooming, the tractor arrives, mows, and we’re left with no additional headaches. Next spring they will germinate again ”, smiled S. Berletaitė.

A celebration for the whole community

According to the interviewee, planting crocuses each fall has already become a certain local tradition, and both community members and guests and passersby can contribute, because it takes more than two helpers to plant this many flowers.

“When we plant a larger quantity for the first time, 50 thousand, we plant in one day, in 3-4 hours. There were about 70 people. And now we organize twice: Friday night after work, who can, about 20-30 people come, and then on Saturday, from morning to noon. The fishermen are still cooking the fish, we stay. And the work and the celebration of the garden together ”, the woman rejoiced.

According to her, during the first two years crocuses were planted at the expense of the community itself, based on the membership fee collected and 2% of the population. of income tax. The last two times, the community has been able to gain support through dedicated programs.

S. Berletaitė is pleased that this initiative receives a lot of positive attention.

“At least for me, those spring flowers bring me the greatest joy. Then in the summer, we don’t see those colors anymore. And now when those colors start to sprout after winter, it’s fun, “he smiled.
