According to The Independent, Marin was invited to be immortalized on the cover of Trendi magazine. The Prime Minister of Finland put him in a black jacket and a striking necklace. Despite the woman telling the publication that she wanted to “focus on politics, not appearance,” she found herself at the center of sexist controversy in the social space.
Politicians and members of the public who spoke about Marin’s actions were divided into two camps: some call the photo of the prime minister “nepadoria,” others praise the woman.
Marin’s support movement #imwithsanna has even emerged. Photos have appeared on social media where internet users have captured cleanings and nothing else.
And others shared photos of the latter to show that politicians did not criticize men for similar behaviors. Probably the most popular is the shirtless Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Everyone should be allowed to live in such a way that their personality, dignity and professional skills are not valued by picking up mindless flower stalks,” wrote Finnish actress Akki Kokkonen, who supports the policy.
Latvian Minister of Social Welfare Ramona Petraviča has similar views. He said politicians “should be judged on their achievements, not on their appearance.”
Meanwhile, Mari Karsik, editor-in-chief of Trendi magazine, hinted that all this noise due to Marin’s clothes was stemming from misogyny.
“Many didn’t even see her breasts; they saw Sanna Marin in a fashionable black suit,” Karsik said according to The Times.
