It is also proposed to return the list of hunting equipment that was used before the change in the order of K. Mažeika.
In an explanatory note to the amendment to the law filed Monday morning, LVŽS representatives write that they propose “transferring to the law the list of hunting equipment that was used before May 8.”
Therefore, the following hunting tools would be allowed:
one) long-barreled and smooth-barreled weapons with or without optical sights; Category B and C short firearms (only if the injured game is killed to end suffering);
2) nets, traps, traps to ensure the capture of live and uninjured animals;
3) selective traps that ensure the sudden death of the captured animal.
“Since the list of tools proposed in the law is exhaustive, other tools, such as daggers, bows, could not be used in hunting,” suggest A. Širinskienė and A. Nekrošius in the amendment to the law.
Furthermore, with the adoption of the proposed amendments to the law, “the Minister of the Environment would not have the right to approve a list of equipment allowed for use in hunting. The final list would be approved by a law adopted by the Seimas, and whenever it is desired to expand this list, adequate public consultation, transparency and publicity would be guaranteed, as well as avoiding individual decision-making. “
According to the BNS, the minister’s order signed on Friday received much criticism, S. Skvernelis also expressed opposition to the decision to legalize the hunt, and opposition conservatives announced that he would go to court for legitimacy and initiate a ban on ties by law.
According to the Minister’s representative, said order “contains a series of guarantees and other final solutions.”
After the meetings, the Minister agrees to provide comments to the media as well.
K. Mažeika’s order changes the hunting rules and includes a clause on bow hunting among the permitted tools and instruments. The order establishes that the subclause on gear allowed in hunting will take effect from April 2022.
The Minister says that until then, the goal will be to assess the practices of other countries, and the rules and requirements for such hunting will be discussed with the public.
On Monday, environmental activists are preparing to protest to the ministry regarding these changes and to pass Jonas Biliūnas’ “Kliudžiau” tale to K. Mažeika in compliance with the quarantine requirements.
The use of the bow in hunting was allowed until 2004, then prohibited.
Opponents of the use of bows argue that silent shooting facilitates poaching opportunities, but advocates argue that silent hunting is a way to protect the surrounding population from the noise of gunshots.
