According to the doctors, Rh. Withem didn’t have to survive more than a few hours without artificial lung ventilation, but when the equipment was turned off, her “condition improved,” CNN happily tells the patient’s daughter, Nicole Brewer.

Ms. Brewer, her sister, and her brother-in-law watched through glass doors as medical personnel turned off the Rh on November 29 at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Arkansas, USA with artificial lung ventilation equipment.

“Once the equipment was turned off, he started to wake up, saw me and his sister, raised his hand and started saying hello,” added Brewer, seeing his mother try to smile at them.

62 years Rh. Withem COVID-19 was diagnosed on November 7, she was initially sick at home. The woman was bothered by severe headaches, cough, nasal congestion. Soon the woman’s condition began to deteriorate and a week later she was admitted to a hospital where a lung ventilator was immediately connected.

The patient did not respond to attempts to disconnect the device later, so after nearly two weeks, the attending physician decided that the woman would never breathe on her own again. Hospital staff allowed the family to wait in an adjoining room to be as close as possible to the last, as everyone thought, moments of the patient’s life at the time.

When they saw Rhonda greeting them, hope was born, but they still did not know if the woman would finally manage to overcome the disease.

Rh. With them, the following days only intensified, soon from the intensive care unit she was transferred to a simple ward, CNN clarified to her daughter Rebekah Goshien. At first, the woman felt as if she had been relieved by sedatives, but she was now able to communicate with her daughters and grandchildren through video calls.

On December 10, during Goshien’s birthday, he was finally able to see and hug his mother. Rh. Withem is currently moving to the rehabilitation unit, where he tries to regain his strength after so long in bed.

“I was the first person allowed to see it, it was the best birthday present,” says Goshien. Rhoda can only accommodate one visitor per day, so the daughters visit her in turn. Rehabilitation of a woman pays off: Every day, doctors are happy with the progress they are making and are focusing on strengthening weak muscles. The patient’s daughter is also happy that the mother is actively solving crossword puzzles and can use her mobile phone.

Rh. Withem lives her entire life in Benton, so the family was pleasantly surprised by the community’s support during difficult times and the congratulations from those who wanted to congratulate.

“My family was destined to experience a miracle. Thank God for everything,” says Goshien.
