The St. Petersburg did not fly to Spain, where two games await them.
Zenit asked the Euroleague to postpone these matches, but received no response.
Coronavirus was detected in up to 13 team members. Among the most recently infected are basketball players Mateusz Ponitka, Igor Volchin, Billy Baron, Kevin Pangos, team head coach Xavi Pascualis and his three assistants: Inigo Zorzano, Sergei Vozniuk and Jaroslav Jalovchuk.
In total, the club already has 8 players, 4 coaches and a masseur.
Zenit played their last game on Friday, when they managed to hit Tom Masiulis’ Barcelona at 74:70 at home with spectators. The entire coaching staff of the Saint Petersburg team and all the aforementioned players participated in that match.
Previously, the coronavirus was diagnosed in Austin Hollins, Anton Pushkov, Artūras Gudaitis and Vladislav Truškinas, and masseur Andrejs Kozlovs, and the team’s training stopped.
Zenit, who currently have only six healthy players, were scheduled to play at Baskonia de Vitoria on Tuesday and Valencia on Thursday.
The Euroleague has already confirmed that these matches have been canceled and will not be played.
According to Euroleague protocol, if a team cannot register a group of 8 players for a match, they are credited with a technical loss of 0:20. Possible transfer options are not specified.
Similar sanctions are likely to apply to the Vilerbana ASVEL club, which has a coronavirus. The French representatives cannot even register 8 players for the match, who are obliged to play in Euroleague matches, so their duel with Panathinaikos of Athens has already been canceled, and Crvena Zvezda of Belgrade will also be they hang from very fine hair.
The Disciplinary Judge of the Euroleague Basketball has already made a decision on @zenitbasket in rounds 3 and 4! ⚠️
