“We can confirm that the CEC has received a complaint from the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party about the counting of votes in the Electoral Commission of the Utena District,” said Elta L. Matjošaitytė, emphasizing that the Social Democrats ask the commission in the Utena District to recalculate votes immediately.

The president of the CEC assures that to clear all doubts, a meeting of the CEC will be called on Thursday, where it will be proposed to recalculate the votes in the uninominal constituency of Utena.
“Tomorrow, at the end of the day, I invite a meeting of the commission, where it will be proposed, in order to clear absolutely all doubts and entrust the recalculation of votes of this single-member constituency to one of the electoral commissions in Vilnius. (. ..) We will invite observers, candidate representatives, representatives of “White Gloves”, as many observers as possible, so that we can finally make sure that the Utena constituency correctly recalculated the votes of the voters, “said L. Matjošaitytė.

“Our hope is that there is no doubt and that everyone has the maximum clarity in this place about who was the winner of the elections and what the situation is,” he added.

L. Matjošaitytė also stated that he would suggest that the votes of the Utena constituency be recalculated on Friday.

“For my part, there is a desire for a separate commission to count all the votes in this uninominal constituency of Utena on Friday, and at the commission meeting on Saturday, so that we know the clear situation by approving all the results. it has changed, ”he said.

The president of the CEC also informed that the issue of the president of the commission, who is an advisor to the conservative candidate in the Utena constituency, will be discussed at the meeting.

We will also discuss with the president of the commission, since we have received information that the president of the commission is an assistant to one of the candidates, what was his role in the counting process. The members of the commission will have to present what they saw, what they noticed, what they recorded, we do not rule out the possibility that we also give the floor to the president of the commission ”, assured L. Matjošaitytė.

The Social Democrats issued a petition on the vote count on Wednesday

Justas Pankauskas, vice president of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, reports that the request to recalculate barefoot in the uninominal constituency of Utena was presented to the CEC on Wednesday.

We appeal to the CEC to recalculate the votes objectively and fairly due to all the circumstances that occurred in the Utena constituency: due to the fact that the president of the commission has an open conflict of interest, as directed by the commission. Representatives of the CEC, who attended the vote count, ”said J. Pankauskas.

Furthermore, for votes that came later, not until the end of the vote, and for the 286 allegedly invalid ballots, we also believe that we should review the CCA impartially and assess whether the ballots that were unduly recognized as invalid are not valid. ”He added.

ELTA recalls that in the Utena constituency, after the second round of the Seimas elections on Sunday, an unusual situation arose: E. Pupinis and the president of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) Gintautas Paluckas received identical support from the voters.

On Monday the votes in the constituency were recalculated and it was announced that the conservative Edmundas Pupinis had won the mandate. After summarizing the final results, it was announced that 7,076 citizens voted for E. Pupinis and 7,071 for G. Paluckas in the Utena constituency.
