The Lithuanian boys team (U18) won the FIBA Challenger tournament in Israel. Žydrūnas Urbonas students in group B matches 87:56 (16:14, 23:15, 28:13, 20:14) defeated the Portuguese basketball players.
Lithuania: Dovydas Butka 16 points, Gytis Valickas and Emilis Butkus 12 points each, Augustinas Kiudulas and Domas Kauzonas 9 points each.
Portugal: Tiago Almeida 14 tšk., Afonso Guedes 12 tšk., Gonçalo Morais 10 tšk.
The final place of the Lithuanian team in group B will be announced tonight after all group matches. It is already clear that the winner of the group will be the Israeli team, who beat their closest rivals by two victories before today’s fights. The Lithuanians descended on the Israeli team with the result 71: 100, then 85:69 defeated Greece and 79:66 against Estonia, and after a tenacious fight 67:69 they defeated France.
This year’s FIBA Challenger tournament became the unofficial European Championship and replaced the official priorities of the Old Continent that were not organized due to the coronavirus. During them, 32 teams will compete in five European cities.
