But factors that can change this information include proper dental care or even the intervention of a doctor, which is necessary, for example, to stop the spread of the purulent inflammatory infiltrate.

Dalius Matkevičius is one of the few oral, maxillofacial and maxillofacial surgeons in Lithuania, specializing in pathologies of the temporomandibular joint, facial injuries, complex cases of tooth extraction and reconstruction of bone tissue and dental implants.

The doctor emphasizes that tooth extraction is often the last and unfortunately extreme action.

“In addition, it is especially dangerous due to the individual anatomical characteristics of the patient, the accompanying pathologies. They can complicate the post-extraction period by swelling of the face or worse, swelling, indicating that the purulent inflammatory infiltrate is spreading to adjacent anatomical areas and occasionally ending in sepsis, an acute inflammatory response throughout the body. It can disrupt the normal functioning of all organs and cause multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Mortality from sepsis is higher than 50 percent ”, says the doctor.

Therefore, remember once again that when a tooth is injured there is no delay, it is necessary to seek help, because it is never possible to know exactly what is happening in the human body.

“The patient turns to me, the surgeon, when hard and soft tissues have been damaged: gums, teeth, bones. So the pain is usually accompanied by pus, and we never know where they will go. It is good if they clean after open the pus stain, removing the excess.

However, there are cases in which the pus descends into the human body through the fascia of the neck, damaging and contaminating more and more organs ”, says D. Matkevičius, Nordclinic dentist and oral and maxillofacial surgeon with twelve years of experience, in a press release.

Severe dentures are often tricky

One of the main reasons for having to brush a healthy tooth seems to be a banal lack of hygiene, when inflammation accumulates around the surrounding tooth tissues, dissolving the bone from which the tooth has grown.

The doctor recalled the tugboat driver, who had been treated for an untreated toothache.

“So the only way out is to grit that tooth. However, that is much easier said than done, because during my work practice I had to accept the complications caused by dental disease and even encounter some deaths.

It would seem impossible what it means to extract that tooth here, I know it is common and I do the work at home. Well, when everything is fine, but in the medical institution we evaluate and find out where the root of the tooth is, we do an X-ray for that, then we find out if the tooth we are finding has been treated or not.

If the nerve is removed, the so-called periodontal ligament that supports the tooth is already damaged and the tooth itself has grown to the bone. Then, the extraction is complicated due to the decrease in the elasticity of the tooth, so it will generally not be possible to extract it, it will break “, according to the oral surgeon D. Matkevičius, in which case the part of the bone where it has grown is extracted first the tooth.

Such interventions often result in defects in bone tissue that interfere with successful dental implantation. The doctor warns that if the toothache is accompanied by swelling of the cheek or neck, the person may even begin to suffocate.

Then it is necessary to go to a medical institution as soon as possible. Not necessarily to the dental clinic, because even in the nearest hospital, in this case, the so-called cocktail of drugs would be injected: analgesics, anti-inflammatories and antibacterials. This would allow the patient’s condition to stabilize for at least a few hours, and that time should be used for a visit to the dentist who will take the treatment.

Untreated toothache costs life

Unfortunately, according to Dalius Matkevičius, patients often abuse these short-term solutions: “Not long ago I had to deal with a long-distance driver from Ukraine, who started having toothaches in Germany. No over-the-counter pain reliever, even taken in excessively large amounts, helped, for which he received emergency medical care in there.

Unfortunately, the person did not seek further treatment because they did not have insurance, they simply continued driving after receiving the necessary help.

As far as I know, he did very badly in Poland, but the man who crossed him stopped alone in Lithuania and called an ambulance here, because the image was already blowing. He fell into the hands of doctors who were already in a septic state and did not wake up after the operation, during which an attempt was made to save his life … “

So the surgeon reminds again: no pain is too small or insignificant, you cannot wait and suffer, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
