A criminal case against another cleric has been completed at the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office and at the Panevėžys County LSC. The priest of the Aukštaitija region is accused of having photos and videos of minors with pornographic content. The case was referred to court. These crimes are punishable by a fine or up to 2 years in prison.
Many pornographic videos and photos were found on the priest’s computer. After reviewing them, experts from the Office of the Inspector of Journalistic Ethics found that at least 53 electronic files contained pornographic videos and photographs. Among the records on the priest’s computer were 31 photos, which are included in Interpol’s database of child sexual exploitation.
According to prosecutor Ričardas Juozainis, who led the pre-trial investigation, the cleric admits his guilt. He said he knew that downloading pornographic videos and photos of children was prohibited and regretted doing so. The Curia of the Diocese of Panevėžys was informed about the pre-trial investigation. The cleric was removed from his priestly office and temporarily sent to the monastery.
The Rokiškis parish vicar drew the attention of law enforcement officers while investigating other similar crimes. Initially, it was established that 58-year-old Alionidas Budrius, the parish priest of Micaičiai (Diocese of Šiauliai), shares pornographic video material and photos with other people through a social media app. He also sent child pornography to said vicar.
