The great castle tower is being restored in Klaipeda. The implementation of the project is aimed at the funds provided in the DNA plan of the future economy of Lithuania. It is true that it has not yet been agreed exactly who will be installed in the rebuilt tower.
Yesterday, a project to restore the great tower of Klaipeda Castle was presented to the city government.
Project proposals for rebuilding the tower were entered remotely during the quarantine. The presentation was streamed on YouTube.
It is proposed to restore the authentic exterior of the tower, and inside there is a metallic stair structure that gives the impression of lightness, and a space reminiscent of a viewpoint at the top of the tower.
At the public hearing, the possibility of installing an exhibition in the tower space was mentioned, but it is not known exactly what it could be, since it must be evaluated that there is no heating inside the tower.
“If it is not heated, the question arises as to what can be displayed. If it has projections, it will work in winter, when it will be cold,” said Klaipėda Deputy Mayor Arūnas Barbšys.
However, the designers do not propose to install heating in such a building, since a significant part of the room would have to be used only to implement the necessary fire safety requirements.
It is estimated that only the first floor of the tower will be heated.
It is not clear exactly not only about the exhibition, but also about what kind of installation could be located on the heated floor of the tower.
At the public hearing, the possibility of installing an exhibition in the tower space was mentioned, but it is not known exactly what it could be.
It was suggested that the Klaipėda Cultural and Tourist Information Center could be relocated here, but there are no final solutions.
“However, it is necessary to decide who will be there. It is proposed here that the first floor is heated, and the upper part – more for review and without heating. Based on this, it is necessary to see who would be installed there.”
There is also no clear verdict on project financing.
Klaipeda’s deputy mayor said the city hopes that the DNA plan of Lithuania’s future economy will rebuild the money tower. However, it is not yet known if the money will be allocated.
According to the deputy mayor, the cultural heritage specialists who participated in the presentation pointed out that when restoring the tower it would be worth paying special attention to what has survived – the foundations, the pavement – and the possibilities of displaying authenticity.
