According to data from Tuesday, the average morbidity in Klaipeda is currently 1,142.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the total average incidence of COVID-19 in Lithuania is 697.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Professor Vinsas Janušonis, director of the Klaipėda University Hospital (KUL), says that the research laboratory is operating at full capacity and about a thousand case studies are carried out daily.

“Sometimes a thousand tests are passed, we find around one hundred and a half positive cases a day, there were 191 cases. Most surveys are conducted after receiving data from mobile points. At the moment we have a regent for about ten days, there is still a reserve in the National Laboratory, so we should not be left without ”, says V. Janušonis.

Speaking of the situation in the hospital, V. Janušonis does not hide that the situation is not really the best. Currently 121 patients are treated at the hospital. 18 people in resuscitation, 13 of whom underwent lung ventilation. Although the hospital is not operating at full capacity, emergency care and routine operations are still ongoing.

“There is a very tense situation with the staff. We did not stop scheduled care, although it decreased slightly due to a decrease in patient flow, we did not stop necessary emergency care because patients need it and we are still treating COVID patients. -19. Unfortunately, the situation is very tense, “opens V. Janušonis.

Male KUL Doctor says doctors are still addressing the staff shortage in good faith, and the hospital situation is saved by the fact that only patients with more severe coronavirus conditions are left for treatment and patients with more severe forms. Mild are transferred to other hospitals in the city and the region. V. Janušonis mentions that there is hardly a hospital in the region that does not have patients with the COVID-19 virus: many are treated in the hospitals of Šilutė, Šilalė and Kretinga.

“Depending on the possibilities available, we can bring 20 more beds, everything is already in order, but we are deciding the template, here is the maximum we can do now. We still need a building, at least 100 beds, where we can lift patients who do not need pulmonary ventilation, that is, moderate patients, ”says V. Janušonis.

A solution will be sought on Wednesday, during the already scheduled meeting of the Commission on Emergency Situations. V. Janušonis hopes that his proposed solution will be taken into account, as the current situation requires a long delay in decisions.

According to the latest data, there are 21 doctors in self-isolation at KUL Hospital: 16 nurses and 5 doctors.
