The lawsuit reached the Vilnius Regional Court after the former minister appealed against the decision of the Vilnius City District Court in early June. Subsequently, the Court of First Instance dismissed his appeal for violation of honor and dignity.

The former politician is challenging judicial intelligence presented to the Seimas National Security and Defense Committee (NSGC), which conducted a parliamentary investigation a couple of years ago. According to R. Šukis, in the statement presented to the committee, the statements about him do not correspond to reality, they degrade his honor and dignity, for which he must be denied.

In the aforementioned SSD certificate, R. Šukys is mentioned as a participant in the process, when representatives of the MG Baltic concern tried to influence the then Resurrection of the Nation Party led by Arūnas Valinskas. According to the SSD, R. Šukys was discussed as a possible candidate for president of the Seimas, ministers. In the SSD material, the politician is mentioned as a member of the Liberal Movement, although he never belonged to that party.

In June, the Vilnius City District Court ruled that the SSD had not disclosed the false information as it had provided it exclusively at the request of NSGK and had not disclosed it to anyone else.

The court ruling emphasized that the SSD collected all the information on the basis of the Intelligence Act, and the certificate itself provided “summary information about MG Baltic’s attempts to influence state institutions, politicians, and political processes. , influence law enforcement or other control institutions, the use of the media in commercial interests to implement. “

According to the court, such information cannot be verified by the criterion of truth, as it is intrinsically more in line with opinion or presumption, especially in light of the wording “assessment by SSD”.

After this decision, R. Šukys said that he was not convinced by the court’s arguments, but did not comment further on the reasons for the complaint. He stated that he did not rule out the possibility of appealing to the Lithuanian Supreme Court after the appeal instance, if he was not satisfied with the decision.

In September, two district court judges withdrew from the case, having recently heard a case in which MG Baltic had filed a lawsuit with the SSD for the facts revealed in the same certificate.

After the parliamentary investigation, the Seimas declared that the activities of MG Baltic pose a threat to the national security of Lithuania. Concern has called the investigation a political sham.
