The court suspended the tender for the renovation of the Aviation Museum

The museum’s director, Mindaugas Kavaliauskas, told BNS that the court’s ruling was unfavorable for the museum, but did not comment on whether the decision would be appealed and how long reconstruction works could take.

This week, the Kaunas Regional Court applied provisional measures and suspended the tender. Construction company Infes has asked the court to annul the museum’s decision to reject its offer, court representative Milda Bučnytė told BNS.

According to the court, if the tender is not suspended, there is a real risk that the parties’ return to the status quo will be substantially more difficult or impossible.

The museum announced a tender for the contract in May. During the renovation of the building, it is planned to connect the large exhibition halls, expand the workshop, install an elevator and a cafeteria, where it will be possible not only to buy coffee, but also to heat snacks. On the second floor it is also planned to install an observation balcony, a conference room, and on the third floor, an educational room, in addition, it will be possible to climb to the roof of the tower.

For two years, only the outdoor exhibition and educational space should remain open to visitors. M. Kavaliauskas later told BNS that the museum has not been substantially renovated in 50 years, the facilities are worn out.

Reconstruction is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2023, the value of the works is not disclosed.

The museum’s funds store more than 20 thousand. exhibits, including more than 40 aircraft. Large aircraft and equipment from the Fire and Rescue Service are displayed in an outdoor area of ​​2 hectares. The museum’s specialized library has around 19 thousand. Publications.

The most popular exhibit is a replica of the legendary flyable “Lituanica” designed and produced by famous aviator Vlad Kensgaila in 1982, creating the movie “Flight over the Atlantic”.

The Lithuanian Aviation Museum was established in 1990, until 1995 it was called the Lithuanian Technical Museum and was located in Kaunas, Veiverių street, on the territory of S. Darius and S. Girėnas airfields, which has been in operation since 1915 .
