The court ruled that the convicted person would have to start work or register with the employment service within three months during the suspended sentence and could not leave the city and district of his residence without permission from the supervisory institution. The court also ordered the convict to participate in a behavior correction program.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by officials from the Criminal Police Investigation Board of the Klaipėda County Police Chief’s Station, led by the Prosecutor of the First Prosecution Division of the Klaipėda Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The pre-trial investigation began on December 8, 2019, when a two-and-a-half-month-old baby was found in a room in the Klaipėda dormitory with no signs of life. As it turned out, the abandoned body was in the crib for more than 9 days. It was found by the relatives of the convict.
The Prosecutor’s Office reported that the crime was committed when the convicted person, under the influence of alcohol, fell asleep and did not take care of his defenseless minor daughter, who required special attention and suffocated and died unattended.
