The defendant Karolis Bieliauskas was sentenced to life imprisonment and Mantas Bieliauskas was sentenced to a combined 19-year prison sentence. Both were found guilty of the brutal murder of a girl, two robberies, destruction of property, illegal deprivation of liberty.

On April 3, the Kaunas Regional Court had already sentenced the defendants Leonas Bieliauskas to life imprisonment.

The jury established that K. Bieliauskas was the founder and leader of the organized group, initiated and actively participated in the commission of crimes. This was assessed as an aggravating circumstance and the court found no mitigating circumstances.

“The panel of judges assessed (…) the nature of the crimes committed, the degree of danger, the extremely painful and irreversible consequences of the crimes, his behavior after the crimes – he continued his normal life, hid and destroyed evidence , his desire to avoid criminal responsibility, his cynical and contemptuous attitude towards the standards of life, human values ​​and human life accepted by society, decided that the most severe penalty – life imprisonment – should be imposed on K. Bieliauskas for the crimes committed ”, reads the judicial report.

When assessing the responsibility of M. Bieliauskas, the judges took into account the fact that he was married, had a minor child, worked before the crime and had not been convicted before. Given the almost possible maximum prison sentence, given his role in the crime.

“When imposing this sentence, the panel of judges evaluated that M. Bieliauskas did not have a significant influence, not only did he not make decisions, but that other convicts did not listen to his opinion. Although this circumstance does not affect the classification of the criminal acts, it must be taken into account when deciding on the issue of individualization of the sentence, ”said V. Budėnienė.

A more severe punishment is also imposed on the defendant Tomas Zagurskas, who was found guilty of complicity by the Kaunas Regional Court in 2016. in April seizing the VW Passat, a car of Latvian citizens. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

Defendant Algimantas Stankevičius, convicted of complicity in March 2017. A total of 4 years and 2 months in prison was imposed for the looting of an Audi A7 and illegal possession of a firearm.

The Kaunas Regional Court sentenced T. Zagurskas to two years in prison and A. Stankevičius to two years and two months in prison.

The Lithuanian Court of Appeal also awarded civil lawsuits: 40,000 each. 1 million euros to compensate the parents of the murdered girl for the damages caused by the crime and ordered the confiscation of the property for the undisclosed objects, recovering from the accused sums of money corresponding to the value of the property.
