The country’s leaders expressed their condolences on the death of S. Stačiokas

Volleyball admitted that the second half of the season was quite successful for both him and the Ajaccio team he represented, making the season finale a bit disappointing. After the season, Lietuvis decided not to renew the contract with this team and hopes that more interesting offers will appear during the low season.

Ltf.lt conversation with A.Mišeikis about the part of the season, the difficult situation in volleyball and hobbies.

– How would you rate the part of the season that took place?

– I was satisfied with my performance in the second part of the season in France plus-minus. The team’s results were not bad. We had every chance of making the playoffs. When the championship ended, we were ninth in the tournament table and only one point behind the eighth. And yet, we had played less the game. It’s a shame the championship is over because we could have made it to the playoffs. That would be a very good result, knowing the budget and the composition of the team.

– You also managed to prove your strength in the CEV Cup.

– There was an interesting situation. When we beat the Bosnians in the first round, we had to play with the Italian team from Modena in the second. By then, the chaos over the virus had already begun, but the championships had not yet stopped. Even then, the Modena team didn’t come to us in the strongest lineup and we had a chance to win one or even two sets, but we didn’t take advantage of that opportunity. We had to go to Italy two weeks later, but we didn’t even go because there were already big problems in Italy. We gave them victory without a fight, and as it turned out later, it would have been a pointless journey. There was a high risk of contracting the virus. Already in the first match, some players from Italy felt bad. I don’t know if it’s because of a virus, but even then, playing was risky.

– And you immediately came to Lithuania and waited for the news about the next season?

– It turned out that the championship was initially stopped, it was not interrupted, because it was thought that everything would improve soon. Time passed and we did not train because all the hallways were closed. We wait about a week and a half and only then do we receive the launch letters. Although the championship did not officially stop even then, it was already clear to everyone that it would not take place. Then suddenly I contacted the Embassy of Lithuania in Paris and discovered that the travel agency was organizing a trip from Paris and I returned home there. If I hadn’t dealt with it so quickly, I could have stayed in France for a longer period of time.

– You wrote a message on Facebook about saying goodbye to the Ajaccio team. Have you already decided not to go back there?

– In fact, they wanted me to stay. On the one hand, the offer was not bad, but it was on March 19. It is very early, but the French are very eager for a man to make a quick and firm decision. Not everything is very nice there, so I decided not to rush. As with all clubs, there are their pros and cons. After weighing everything, I decided to wait another minute. As far as I know, until now they have not signed a contract with a player in my position, I think the door is still open. I didn’t say goodbye at all, I just thanked you for last season.

– Which country of volleyball attracts you the most?

– When I change the agent, more confidence opens, so I hope there will be offers. But now there are many nuances. Many clubs do not know the budgets, they lose sponsors, some even go bankrupt. The situation is not the best. I have no specific favorite country. I have been playing in France for many years, but I don’t want to go back there. Yes, the league is strong there, but I don’t like the French mindset. This country just doesn’t fit me. I used to play in Italy, I really liked it there, but now it looks like there will be a big crisis due to the virus. The clubs are already saying goodbye to their stars because they will no longer have the money. It’s a shame because Italian volleyball had already returned to normal. I don’t have any specific place where I would like to play. Now there is a lot of competition between players, a great market, and I myself am not at the level to choose a club.

– A long low season awaits you. What are the plans through it?

– Now I spend a lot of time with my family, with my daughter. We travel a lot, we try not to sit at home. I haven’t taken sports seriously in a month and a half. I am not forced to play sports at home, especially since the new season is still a long way off. When the sports clubs open, I will start playing sports again. And now I can pursue my hobbies, fish often, and stay with my family. I also usually mow the grass near the house (smiles, – ed. Past).
