According to the Department of Prisons, officers from the Criminal Intelligence Board, in cooperation with officers from the Vilnius County Police Chief Police Station, on November 27 prevented the possible entry of drugs into the prison.
In possession of information on the alleged illicit transfer of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances to a penitentiary center to distribute these substances among the convicts, the officials of the penitentiary department organized an ambush.
A man was arrested at a post office in Vilnius, and hidden or suspicious narcotic or psychotropic substances were found in the mail.
A possible accomplice, the person who sent this package, was soon arrested in Samogitia.
Officials conducted a search of the homes of the detained suspects. During the same, one of the suspects was suspected of narcotic or psychotropic substances.
The court sent a suspect into custody for arrest and a more lenient pre-trial detention.
Due to this incident, a pre-trial investigation was initiated for the illegal elimination of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances with the aim of distributing them or the illegal elimination of a large quantity of narcotic or psychotropic substances (according to article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania). The pre-trial investigation is organized and directed by prosecutors from the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
