The pipe-laying vessel Fortuna, owned by the Russian company KVT-RUS, was previously seen some 28 km south of the Danish island of Bornholm.
There were several other Russian ships near the ship, according to Vesselfinder and MarineTraffic.
“The pipelaying vessel Fortuna has started preparatory work for the construction of Nord Stream 2 in the Danish Exclusive Economic Zone corridor,” Nord Stream 2 AG said in a statement.
“All work is done in accordance with the corresponding permits,” the company added.
It is in this area, according to the construction plans for Nord Stream 2, where the exciting gas pipeline of the Russian gas giant Gazprom will be built.
10 billion The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will allow Russia to supply twice as much natural gas to Germany through the Baltic Sea.
For a long time, the United States was strongly opposed to the pipeline, especially the Donald Trump administration, which encouraged the purchase of American natural gas and openly criticized European countries for their energy dependence on Russia.
Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic states also strongly opposed the pipeline, as it would increase Europe’s dependence on Russian gas, which Moscow could use to increase political pressure.
The European Parliament on Friday adopted a non-binding resolution calling on the EU to block completion of the 1,200 km pipeline.
Construction on Nord Stream 2 resumed in German territorial waters in December, after a nearly one-year suspension due to US sanctions.
The Danish authorities have allowed the resumption of construction works from 15 January.
However, Nord Stream 2 AG only spoke of “preparatory” construction work due to unknown US policy during the transition between Trump and Joe Biden.
Last week, German officials said the United States would impose sanctions on Fortuna.
D. Trumpo 2019 The sanction measures signed in late 2006 would freeze the assets of the companies that contributed to the construction of the pipeline and restrict the issuance of visas to those involved in the construction.
It is true that the pipeline is almost complete and most of the work remains in the exclusive economic zone of Denmark.
In fact, Nord Stream 2 consists of two parallel pipes. According to the Danish Energy Agency, there are currently 69.2 km of one gas pipeline and 49.6 km of another gas pipeline.
