The Lithuanian Christian Democrats and the National Union hope to obtain the most votes in the first round of the Seimas elections and promise to take the initiative to form a broad ruling coalition.
Party chairman Gabriel Landsberg said Sunday night that he saw signs that the Conservatives would be the first to arrive with votes from major cities.
“This probably symbolizes a certain confidence that the right of initiative is being put in the hands, … we can name a broad coalition as a key task today,” Landsberg told reporters.
Ingrida Šimonytė, leader of the conservative list, said the signals received “through its channels” provide a basis for “moderate optimism.”
“The result that we saw at the beginning, as is probably the case during all elections, which changes after the cities unite, is now that the cautious results that we get seem to change in favor of our party as well,” said I. Šimonytė .
According to G. Landsbergis, party candidates in single-member districts should also perform well and enter “a series of second rounds.”
“It seems that there are also good signs, we may definitely have a lot of second rounds. Now it is difficult to predict accurately, perhaps similarly to 2016, many of those battles. They are a little different, no doubt, but many of our members uninominales seem to have gained the trust of the voters ”, said the president of the party.
When asked if the Conservatives would negotiate with the Labor Party, Landsbergis did not rule out that possibility.
“We do not say against something, we say in favor. At the table where political forces must negotiate, there must be room for all the expectations of the electorate. People who voted for the “peasants”, for the Labor Party or other political forces, hope that their expectations will be heard, “Landsbergis said.
I. Šimonytė emphasized that the formation of the coalition will be influenced not only by the results of the conservatives, but also by other parties.
Much will depend on the individual result of the Unión Patria, but also on the result that other parties will receive, that is, the trust of other parties, how many votes there will be and how many parties will be needed for a coalition to be stable. , active, ”he said.
The party list leader said common goals and similarities can be found in the multi-party agenda, so that an agreement can be reached with almost everyone, and most importantly to agree on long-term reforms and solutions.
“I would say that there are many similarities. And there is another aspect in particular, in which it is also very important to us, namely the values that are Lithuania’s European values, be it freedom of expression, protection of the media or the rule of law, everything that is very important to us. I think there are several parties across the political spectrum that are also seriously ill behind these values, so I think that on that basis we could also find many points of contact, ”said I. Šimonytė.
