Council members must answer the question put to the vote “Do you agree to consider G.Landsbergis elected President of the TS-LKD”?
The Conservatives abandoned the direct and first planned open election of the party chairman, leaving him the sole candidate for office.
The TS-LKD divisions nominated a total of 16 candidates for party presidents, but all but G. Landsbergis withdrew their candidacies, arguing that in a special pandemic situation, concentration and united work is needed in the Seimas and the Government, and internal competition would hamper it.
For this reason, this week the Supervisory Committee of the Party proposed to the TS-LKD Council, as the highest body between congresses, by means of its decision de facto approve the election of Foreign Minister G. Landsbergis as party president for another four-year term.
According to Valdas Benkunskas, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee, if such a decision were made, G. Landsbergis would be declared head of TS-LKD at the congress at the end of May and a new term would begin in this position.
“Or, of course, the party council can decide otherwise: repeat the procedures again or extend the powers of the governing bodies for three months,” V. Benkunskas said this week.
The electronic voting of the TS-LKD councilors has already been announced, which will take place until Sunday at 12 noon.
G.Landsbergis, 39, has been in charge of TS-LKD since 2015.
