“Congestion, not a sewer pit near Vingis Park and a closed traffic lane. This can cover the well during the morning rush hour, ”an internet user commented wryly.
Furthermore, traffic was hampered by an accident on Geležinio Vilko Street. The cars collided in the left lane of traffic.
The “Communications Services” company of the Vilnius city municipality also reported traffic disruptions.
“The congestion is registered at the entrance to the Education Ring on Geležinio Vilko street, on Ukmergės street. Drivers, be careful and choose other routes if possible.
For the attention of public transport passengers! Deviations from the schedules of the following bus routes are recorded: 1G, 2G, 3G, 10, 11, 24, 34, 56, 87, 88, 89 “, – read in the” Notice of communication services “.
Noticed on Monday
As Egidijus Steponavičius, a representative of UAB Grinda, which manages the streets of Vilnius, told Delfi, a report about an open well near Čiurlionio str. The viaduct was received already on Monday, around 7 pm
Grinda specialists approached him, covered the well with a temporary cover, constructed guide signs, and informed the well owner of the current situation. And it is “Vilniaus vandenys”, commented the interlocutor.
Still, he said, there were reports of wells and congestion from both police and drivers Tuesday morning. It turned out that the well was open again and there was no rush to plug it. According to E. Steponavičius, “Grinda” could not cover the open cavity on its own, because all wells are different.
“We contacted Vilniaus Vandenis again, but they reported that they are aware of the situation and that the contractors are informed,” said E. Steponavičius.
A complicated job awaits you
Renata Saulytė-Smalskė, Head of the Vilniaus Vandenai Communication Department, told Delfi that the well in the traffic lane had opened in an thankless place, where three lanes of traffic merge into one.
“Even last night, our team of specialists came to assess what should be done. It turned out that there is no simple solution, because both the manhole cover is damaged and the well itself is cracked,” said the specialist.
According to her, the Vilniaus Vandenai UAB Eurovia contractor was called in to carry out the works. The latter’s specialists will not only rebuild and plug the well, but will also pave the area of the street that surrounds it. Such work is necessary due to the fact that the well is damaged in such a way that even vehicles can be damaged by driving through cars.
“It’s definitely not the option where you can cover yourself and, if there is a well, pour and release the traffic. Here both the reinforcement works and the reconstruction of the asphalt are necessary ”, commented R. Saulytė-Smalskė.
According to her, repair work is expected to be completed by noon on Tuesday and traffic will be released as usual at this location.
