The president of the commission, Arminas Lydeka, explained that the commission must investigate whether a member of the Seimas is not being persecuted for political or similar reasons.
“Additional guarantees of inviolability of the person of a member of the Seimas established by the provisions of the Constitution and the Statute of the Seimas, necessary for the proper performance of their duties, are established to protect a member of the Seimas from persecution for political reasons or otherwise Preconditions would be created for a member of the Seimas suspected of committing a crime to avoid criminal responsibility. Therefore, the commission must investigate whether a member of the Seimas is not persecuted for political or similar reasons, for their activities as member of the Seimas and if there is a legal basis to satisfy the request of the Attorney General E. Pašilis ”, stressed the president of the commission Arminas Lydeka.
The Commission should decide whether to propose to the Seimas that he comply with the Attorney General’s request and allow the Seimas member P. Gražulis “to be prosecuted, arrested or otherwise restricted in his liberty.”
The Seimas ordered the commission to carry out the investigation before December 23 of this year.
According to the decision of the Seimas, the commission is made up of 11 members: Vaida Giraitytė, Ligita Girskienė, Sergejus Jovaiša, Paulė Kuzmickienė, Orinta Leiputė, Arminas Lydeka, Vytautas Mitalas, Audrius Petrošius, Jonas Pinskus, Juozas Varžyšnia Vayaus.
According to prosecutors, P. Gražulis violated the Penal Code and in the absence of signs of bribery since 2015. May 18 to 2017 February 13 abused his official position in the search for property gains, his actions diminished the authority of the Seimas .
The Attorney General repeatedly requested the waiver of the immunity of Deputy Gražulis. June 4 this request of E. Pašilis was rejected by the Seimas.
