During the work of A.Razma, a series of important processes related to intelligence were carried out in the Presidency.
In November 2019, the president granted clemency to two Russian spies and, in exchange, two Lithuanians and Norwegians were returned to Lithuania.
At the end of the same year, the president registered amendments that would expand the powers of the intelligence service. As a result of the debate, the law has not yet been passed and there has been an initiative in parliament to create an office of the intelligence ombudsman.
There was also a conflict last year over the appointment of a military intelligence chief when the president proposed his candidate to then-Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis. The dispute was later resolved by the Minister who appointed his predetermined candidate.
However, this led to rumors that tensions had contributed to the president’s refusal to appoint Karoblis as ambassador.
The National Security Group is headed by Darius Kuliešius.
R.Razma returns to the SSD only on the days when the reorganization of the intelligence service takes effect.
It is not discussed in detail because the structure of the intelligence service is not public. Earlier, SSD Director Darius Jauniškis said the changes will be made to make the department’s work more efficient by focusing on emerging threats.
Until his arrival to the Presidency, A.Razma held the position of head of the SSD board of directors.
More than one advisor withdrew
This is one of the many resignations from the Presidency.
Recently, Šarūnas Radvilavičius from the Education, Science and Culture Group resigned as Presidential Advisor. Aleksandras Radčenko, a lawyer and publicist working at Law Group, left in March, and last year advisers Ieva Saudargaitė and Vida Petrylaitė left the group.
In the same month, Foreign Minister Algė Budrytė and President Antanas Bubnelis’s spokesperson, Ieva Elenbergienė, who worked in the Communication Group, and advisor Liutauras Galinis left the Presidency.
A year ago the resignation of three important councilors was announced: Jonas Vytautas Žukas, Head of the National Security Group, Chief Advisor to the President on Education, Science and Culture, Sonata Šulcė, Head of the Education, Science and Culture Group, and Aistis Zabarauskas , Head of the Communication Group.
