“In response to the current situation and to dispel any doubts about the election results in the single-member constituency of Utena, I will propose that the election results of the Utena constituency be recalculated in Vilnius on Friday,” he told BNS Laura Matjošaitytė, president of the CEC.

He said members of the Vilnius electoral commissions will be offered to recalculate the votes of Utena residents.

“The new calculation would not be made by the members of the CEC, but by the members of the electoral commissions in Vilnius, with the participation of observers,” said L. Matjošaitytė.

The CEC received a request from the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) to recount the votes in this constituency, as the first vote recount in Utena raises questions about transparency.

Justas Pankauskas, vice president of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, told BNS that violations had been committed at that time.

“First of all, we complained about the poor performance of the functions of the members of the commission, when the bags with the ballots were not properly sealed, we have photos and evidence,” he said.

The Social Democrats also lost an early voting envelope. According to J. Pankauskas, it was announced that seven early voting envelopes had been lost, but only six had reached Utena.

The Social Democrats also have doubts about the participation of Rolanda Gudynienė, president of the Regional Commission of Utena, in the organization of the vote count. After all, he is an assistant to Edmundas Pupinis, a conservative member of the Seimas who won the elections in Utena.

After counting the votes in the Utena constituency during the second round of the Seimas elections, it was clear that the leader of the Social Democrats Gintautas Paluckas and the conservative candidate E. Pupinis had received 7,075 votes each.

A vote recount was organized on Monday, then 7,072 votes were found for E. Pupinis and 7,070 for G. Paluckas. .

R. Gudynienė, who organized the counting of votes, told BNS that he had not counted the ballots and had left. The process was monitored by six of the 13 members of the CEC.
