The CCA had questions about the citizenship of A. Guoga

Laura Matjošaišytė, president of the CEC, stated that the Migration Department had no information that A. Guoga had renounced the citizenship of a foreign country, so the CEC asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to confirm whether the information provided by A Guoga was correct.

Guoga said the CEC had produced an official document issued by the Australian Department of the Interior stating that his request to revoke his citizenship on July 31 had already been granted. The Australians fulfilled A.Guoga’s wish to renounce citizenship less than a week later, on August 5. It is true that the document submitted to the CCA also states that A. Guoga must send a passport or other certificates confirming previous citizenship to the Australian Department of the Interior within 28 days.

According to the portal, doubts about whether a candidate for the Seimas is not bound by an oath with another state are reinforced by the fact that the letter sent to the organizers of the elections by A.Guoga is on an official form, but not confirmed by a signature.

According to the Constitution, a Lithuanian citizen who is not bound by an oath or promise to a foreign state and who is at least 25 years old on election day and resides permanently in Lithuania can be elected a member of the Seimas.

The Seimas elections will be held on October 11.
