The border guard suspected that the packages had been dumped on the territory of Lithuania. The border with Belarus runs here from the southern edge of the city.
The border guard crew, who rushed to the scene, saw two men running along the Kamaja River through the city. They were about 200 meters from the state border with Belarus and were carrying a package. When they noticed the border guards, the carriers dumped the load, rushed to nearby outbuildings and managed to hide.

After an hour-long search, one of the carriers was stopped by border guards on Adutiškio Street. This is a 24-year-old resident of Švenčionys.
After reviewing the contents of the packages wrapped in black polyethylene and secured with braces, border guards found 2,000. pack of cigarettes “Fest” with Belarusian stamps. This is not the first case where Belarusian smokers “fly” into Lithuanian territory through a protective fence that separates the states without physically violating the border line.

Due to this fact, an administrative procedure was initiated against Švenčionys. A fine of between 5,200 and 6,000 euros will be imposed for the transport of products subject to excise duties in breach of the established procedure.
After questioning, border guards released the carrier. They gave him a summons to appear in court, who will hear the case. Cigarettes are stored at the Adutiškis border barrier.
