This year, the ArtVilnius’20 art fair at the Lithuanian Congress and Exhibition Center Litexpo brought together 37 galleries and 150 artists from 9 countries.
On Friday afternoon, the jury, chaired by Dr. Julija Reklaitė, selected the seven best galleries at the fair, the best young artist in the exhibition, the best artist and the best authors of sculptures and installations. “Although the fair has decreased this year, the quality has remained the same. We are especially happy about that, which is why we wanted to reward as many artists and galleries as possible who work in extremely difficult conditions, ”said Julija Reklaitė, Chair of the Evaluation Commission, Architect, Director of Rupert Public Institution.
That is why the commission decided to publish even two works for the best installation of the fair. The installation “Garden” by Rafalas Piesliakas, which welcomes visitors to the open-air fair, in the exhibition of sculptures and installations “Takas”, is marked by constant professionalism and contextuality. Kaunas artist Morfai’s installation “Incas – in the architectural style of interwar modernism” was awarded for the ingenious updating of Kaunas’s interwar architectural heritage. This installation can be found in the sculpture and installation exhibition “Takas” at booth 5.31.
For the ironic approach and sense of place, a special mention of the commission went to the young artist Cyprus Dubauskas presented by the Center for Contemporary Art in the fair project area for the installation “Daily Talking”.
Rūta Spelskytė-Liberienė was announced as the best young artist of the fair, which is presented on the stand of the VAA exhibition hall “Titanikas”. In its work, the Commission has noted the coherence of scientific and artistic research, its sensitive and fragile approach, restoring an aesthetic that transcends the limits of visual art and includes all the senses. The award for the artist was traditionally established by the long-term sponsor of the fair, the managing partner of the Cobalt law firm in Lithuania, Dr. Irmantas Norkus.
The title of Best Artist ArtVilnius’20 for his long-term rethinking of photographic media in long-term practice is awarded to photographer Remigijus Treigis. Her artistic photographs are presented at the fair by Klaipandedda Gallery Baroti. The Klaipeda County Artists Union Gallery “Baroti” is also recognized as the best gallery in the fair and is marked by high quality mature art. The “Eka Gallery” commission of the Estonian Academy of Arts was commended by the commission for the strong works of young artists. Galerie Nivet-Carzon in Paris is best recognized for its irony, non-commercial attitude, and unexpected play.
The Panevėžys Gallery “Galerija XX” was awarded the award of the best gallery for artists discovered undiscovered. The “Pilot” experimental space of the Latvian Academy of Arts is characterized by its rich concentration of young artists of exceptional quality. Vilnius Gallery “The Room” – for a good selection of excellent paintings, and Vilnius Gallery “The Rooster Gallery” – for a professional presentation of international artists.
The commissioner, professor, Dr. Raminta Jurėnaitė pointed out that it seemed important for the commission to evaluate the constant work of the galleries and the ability to discover new talents. Dr. Job, managing partner of the Cobalt law firm in Lithuania, also participated in the evaluation commission. Irmantas Norkus, artist, musician, winner of the Venice Art Biennale “Golden Lion” for the best national pavilion (opera “Sol y mar”, together with R.Barzdžiukaitė and V.Grainyte) Lina Lapelytė and ArtVilnius’14, director artistic, Eric Schlosser, artistic director and curator of exhibitions at the Tbilisi Art Fair in Georgia.
The XI International Contemporary Art Fair ArtVilnius’20 will take place until this Sunday at the Lithuania Litexpo Congress and Exhibition Center.
