Gave chairs

Meanwhile, yesterday on the social network Facebook, on the account of the “Garsas” cinema center, the news appeared that cinema chairs are being donated.

“The Panevėžys City Council allowed the chairs made in 1968 to be donated. There are about 400 of them. I think donating chairs is much better than destroying them. This is both morally and humanly just. We only donate chairs, we do not plan to donate other items, ”explained Genė Pučinskienė, director of the Garsas cinema center.

By the way, the ad about the donated chairs appeared on Monday afternoon, but by the end of the working day, “Garsas” no longer had chairs. Interest in them was so great that the chairs were snatched away.

Close the car park

The State Commission for Cultural Heritage also ruled against the demolition of the cinema building.

The municipality was also embroiled in legal disputes with the Building Inspection, which eventually concluded a peace treaty, and the artist himself publicly announced his intention to transfer the collection in August.

According to T. Jukna, director of the municipal administration of the city of Panevėžys, there are currently no legal or other obstacles left for the center, and the discussions with S. Eidrigevičius, with the participation of the Minister of Culture Simonas Kairis, are “quite positive “.

Representatives of the municipality of Panevėžys claim that temporary film facilities were found at the M. Rimkevičaitė vocational training center in consultation with representatives of the “Garsas” cinema center. Another commercial cinema is located a few hundred meters away.

For several years, Garsas also plans to show film screenings in parks and other open and renovated spaces.

“Our economic institution has rented around a thousand square meters of space, there is also an amphitheater room, which will be equipped with around a hundred seats for spectators. The place will be adapted to screen cinemas, we try to invest the minimum in it. I think it will last until April-May, then there should already be an opportunity to see movies. It is not clear if our situation due to the pandemic will allow it, “said T. Jukna.

Non-commercial cinema will return

According to the director of the municipality of the city of Panevėžys, once the construction of the SEMC is completed, the non-commercial cinema should return to the city center.
