During a press conference on Thursday, the parliamentarian cited a letter signed by the Prosecutor of the Investigation Department of Organized Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor General Antanas Stepučinskas that on January 6, 2020 in Kaunas, near Highway 87 of Seniava ,
In January last year, P. Gražulis announced at a press conference that when he noticed a car following him with the registration numbers “GOT 632”, he blocked it, opened the driver’s door, grabbed the steering wheel and demanded to explain why he was being hunted.
According to the Seimas member, there were two men and a woman in the car. According to him, they tried to escape from P. Gražulis, but he did not let go of the wheel. In order for the politician to let go of the wheel, they gave him an arm with alcohol on his chest.
At the request of P. Gražulis, all the action was filmed by his well-known Aušra Mitrauskaitė.
A member of the Seimas approached the police in connection with the incident, who refused to initiate a pre-trial investigation. It was started only by order of the Kaunas Regional Court, but was suspended after a few months. The politician then addressed the Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė and, by her decision, the Prosecutor’s Office took over the case.
On 20 September, Attorney General A. Stepučinskas decided to terminate this pre-trial investigation because no criminal acts had been committed.
His resolution, which was sent to P. Gražulis, establishes that the officers who followed the Seimas member acted legally.
The Lithuanian Criminal Police Office informed the Prosecutor’s Office that sanctioned measures had been taken in the circumstances indicated by P. Gražulis.
Data on a police investigation is classified.
P. Gražulis stated that he would not surrender and would try to find out what investigation was being carried out against him.
I will certainly continue, I want to find out the reasons to follow me.
“I will definitely go on and on, I want to know why they follow me,” he said.
“Another very important detail is that since I was not notified that it had been discontinued, in fact they are still tracking me today,” he said.
P. Gražulis is currently on trial for abuse. From May 2015 to February 2017, the Attorney General’s Office accused the parliamentarian of abusing the position of a member of the Seimas, for which the State suffered damages.
According to the case, the parliamentarian may have sought and received financial benefits from a private company, Judex, acting in the interests of that company and impermissibly interfering with the activities of other public officials in Lithuania and Russia. Also, according to prosecutors, he offered to give money to Russian officials, asking them to act illegally in the interests of that company.
In 2015, Russian officials discovered the Listeria bacteria in Judex frozen food products exported to Russia.
The indictment states that the Seimas member helped handle the Judex company’s related problems: he repeatedly called Lithuanian and Russian officials, asked for bribes and asked to violate existing procedures.
A member of the Seimas categorically denies the blame.
