After natural rain in Vilnius on Tuesday, more than 300 reports of damage and violations were received, transportation difficulties arose, water flooded courtyards and basements, the municipal company Grinda reported.

“Today crews work all over the city: sweeping the driveway, removing boiled trees, clearing stairs, handling leaching and landslides. The rains have also shaken the road and pavement in some places, ”said the company’s Facebook account.

According to her, there are also many reports of flooded patios and basements.

In addition, the company reports that in the face of the effects of the rain, its employees have found a large number of washed car license plates.

BNS, a firefighter with the Fire and Rescue Department, said firefighters also had to go to rain calls and pull the cars out of the water. Most requests for assistance were received in Vilnius, but the exact statistics will be released on Wednesday.

According to data from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, natural rain was recorded in Vilnius on Tuesday, when during 12 noon. or 50 to 80 mm of rain for a shorter period. Above 80 mm, the rain is considered catastrophic.

At around 1 pm Up to 79.7mm of precipitation had fallen at Trakai Vok in, at the VU weather station in the center of Vilnius, on Čiurlionio Street, about 41mm.

Egidijus Steponavičius, Grinda’s Head of Marketing and Communications, told BNS that in the event of such rain, it is natural that in some places the capacity of the rainwater networks is simply insufficient.

“The tide that cut the grass in the city on the eve of the holidays was not collected everywhere, which means that the rain washed the surface of the streets, clogged the sewer grate and the water could not escape quickly,” he added . he said.

According to the representative of “Grinda”, the most problematic was the Geležinio Vilko street, since the heaviest rain hit the northern districts of the city: Šeškinė, Pašilaičiai, Fabijoniškės, Jerusalem, Baltupiai.

“The problem is that the rainwater from these areas flows through the single collector on Geležinio Vilko street. There were large rainfall flows and in some places the capacity of the rather large collector was no longer sufficient,” explained E. Steponavičius.

According to him, Geležinio Vilko Street was flooded in two places in the morning. A car was stuck in the ring under Constitution Avenue, traffic was heading to the top of the ring.

“The troublesome part at one point was the iron wolf tunnel,” a Grinda spokesperson said.

According to him, due to the rain, the traffic stopped at the same time on Neris street.

“As the rain weakens, the situation in the city should adjust,” said a Grinda representative.

He said that after the reconstruction of the rainwater system on Geležinio Vilko Street, such problems should no longer arise.
