In the voting, Brisbane received 72 votes, five IOC members voted against and three abstentions.
Following the continental rotation principle, Brisbane had no competitors.
After the vote, IOC President Thomas Bach and Queensland Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk signed the contract for the Games host city in 2032.
The IOC vote became a formality when the Executive Committee approved Brisbane’s bid in June.
“It’s an exciting time,” Bach said. – The Games are in good hands, we know Australia and its experience in hosting these events. They are the hosts who are totally in line with the direction of our reform. “
Brisbane is the first city to be approved under the enhanced Olympic city selection procedure.
After the defeats and the referendum competitions, John Coates, Vice President of the IOC and Chairman of the Australian Olympic Committee, organized the reorganization of the scandal system.
The IOC stated that there was no conflict of interest as Mr Coates withdrew from the meetings to discuss Brisbane’s candidacy.
