Terrible tragedy in Šalčininkai: a dream house created with a lifetime’s savings was destroyed by a fire

On Friday, 11 hours 45 minutes, the Miliun family home caught fire in the village of Purvėnai. The housewife says that without the start of the disaster, a 26-year-old daughter with an 11-month-old son remained in the house. The daughter, who smelled of smoke at home, opened the windows. Then the house began to burn with flames. The fire is believed to have been caused by a burning fireplace, according to the press release.

The owner of the house says that although the house was not new, it was beautifully arranged and rebuilt.

“It was the house of my late parents, which I recently renovated, invested all the savings accumulated during my life, and lived in it my whole life. The house was of old construction, made of wood, but completely rebuilt. New windows, new roof, new doors, floors… ”said host Ana Miliun.

The owner of the burned house says that when the fire broke out, the daughter was still trying to put out the fire herself, but realized that she definitely couldn’t put out the flame. Therefore, he began to ask the chimneys for help and called the firefighters, who, unfortunately, could not arrive quickly due to adverse weather conditions.

“My daughter tried to put out the fire with water, but failed. Then, picking up the boy, he ran to the street to ask for help. Then a fire department was called. Our neighbors who lived nearby heard their daughter rush to help extinguish until firefighters arrived. The daughter, who left the boy at the neighbors’ house, also fled to continue fighting. But the fire had already broken out.

All that was left was to wait for the help of the firemen. And the firefighters drove for a long time because they got stuck in the snow. As soon as they arrived, they suddenly started working and putting out the fire, ”said A. Miliun.
The fire did not spare the family, they took everything with them. For the moment, the family needs all the help possible. Although family members help, their help alone is not enough.

“My loved ones are taking household items home little by little. The most important thing now is to rebuild everything so that our family can have a home again. Any material help is very important at this time, “said A. Miliun.
