“Financial sanctions and travel bans have been imposed on 15 people, including President Aliaksandr Lukashenko,” the Swiss government said in a statement.
The new measures, which will take effect immediately, are “in line with the decisions taken by the EU on November 6,” the government said.
Switzerland is “deeply concerned by the continuing tensions and advocates dialogue between the Belarusian government and civil society,” Bern said.
“Belarus is urged to comply with its international human rights obligations. This includes respect for freedom of expression, assembly and association, the release of all wrongfully detained, and the investigation of alleged torture or ill-treatment by the security forces ”, emphasized the Swiss government.
