“Supermarkets must be unequivocally equated with food outlets. LNTPA wrote to the government on Thursday proposing three additional measures to resume PC operations: not working on weekends, allocating even more space to a buyer, and closing the trade after reaching a certain number of infections per day or other established pandemic indicators. by the government. .
“Closing supermarkets on weekends would limit the temptation to come and spend free time and stay alone to shop for a purpose. This practice is valid and proven in Latvia. We also offer to double the retail space per visitor to 40 square meters . and we agreed to voluntarily install systems that would display the number of visitors at the POS at the entrances and on PC websites, encouraging them to choose the times when the PC is least busy, ”says M. Statulevičius.
The LNTPA’s appeal to the government also proposes establishing indicators that would open trade and close it if it worsens.
“According to current statistics, most infections occur in homes and educational institutions, and in commerce, there are only six outbreaks of infection out of more than three hundred. And they are among employees. Therefore, we can clearly see that the virus it is spreading mainly through communication between different households and not through the services or points of sale that are now open. For this reason, we ask the Government to establish the criteria by which shopping centers are closed or opened “, says M. Statulevičius According to him, the PC also proposes to promote responsibility in the sector without providing sanctions for traders who do not comply with safety regulations by restricting their activities.
Three weeks ago, the LNTPA, together with the Association of Commercial Companies, introduced ten voluntary security measures that would open up commerce: circular movement, avoiding collisions of flows; the latest technologies that allow live monitoring of the number of people in supermarkets; ventilation systems, disinfection; medical masks and other devices distributed to visitors.
