According to V. Grubliauskas, the positive dynamics of COVID-19 allows planning that all the planned summer events will take place.
At the moment, only questions arise about the great sailing regatta “The Tall Ships Races 2021” scheduled for June 27 and 30.
Klaipeda is scheduled to be the port of departure for the regatta.
However, only on these days will it be officially clear whether traditional regatta events like a fair, festive procession and concerts will take place at that time.
V.Grubliauskas stated that STI (Sail Training International – organizer of the regatta) is planning to present the final verdict on this event on Tuesday evening.
For whatever reasons the show couldn’t be held, the mayor assured him that he would not be able to comment. The most optimistic hopes are associated with the Festival del Mar. Last year, it had a different format and became a real test for both organizers and participants.
The crane that became a festive stage with musicians kept changing places to avoid meeting. The festive fair was also held keeping distances, Pilies Street was also dedicated to it.
Last year, the Festival of the Sea was criticized and even called Skin vacation.
The city’s headline also criticized the fact that the musicians had to go into hiding and that viewers continued to search for them.
Fans of the festival also did not see the traditional march. This year, according to V. Grubliauskas, it will be celebrated again. Especially since the Klaipeda Port Authority is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The celebration should take place from July 23 to 25.
“All events are approved and will take place. We are not planning any relocation. Hopefully, as the summer accelerates, the risks of getting sick will decrease,” said Klaipėda City Mayor V. Grubliauskas.
