“This is my capitalized teacher and I think not only mine, but many others, all generations of lawyers. A true patriot of Lithuania,” said the president of the Constitutional Court.
“I would highlight that he was one of the few lawyers who emphasized the importance of patriotism and devotion to Lithuania,” he said.
A member of the Seimas, the conservative Stasys Šedbaras declared that he had always maintained friendly relations with S. Stačiokas.
“He is my teacher, and then we worked together at the Constitutional Court … We had friendly relations all the time,” Shedbar told BNS.
“He was very active as an academic writer, worked for many years at the Institute of Forensic Sciences and has really contributed a lot in the field of constitutional law. Most of it has been done in the field of constitutional law,” said the MP.
Express sympathy
The country’s leaders express their condolences for the death of Stasys Stačiokas, a lawyer and one of the creators of the Constitution.
President Gitanas Nausėda expressed his condolences to his family and colleagues.
“Today, Lithuania has lost a true patriot from his country who has dedicated his whole life to law and science,” the Presidency report read.
The President of Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis stated that this was a painful loss not only for the legal community, but also for the whole of Lithuania.
“A man who laid the foundations for Lithuania and was a true example to many because of his deep wisdom and sincere devotion to the country. We are deeply saddened to escort such a prominent personality and will always be grateful for the legal inheritance, ”V. Pranckietis said in the report.
S. Stačiokas was born in 1937 in Alytus, graduated from Vilnius University, studied at the M. Lomonosov University Graduate Program in Moscow, and directed the Forensic Sciences Research Institute.
In 1990-1992 he participated in the preparation of the draft Constitution, as well as in 1993-1996 and 1999-2008 he worked as a judge of the Constitutional Court, in 1996-1999 he was a member of the Seimas.
In 1996, S. Stačiokas received the Cross from the Commander of the Gediminas Order.
