The decision to increase the entrance fee by 10 euros for two months, from June 20 to August 20, was made at the end of last year.

The city’s opposition later criticized authorities, saying that despite rising entry fee revenues, infrastructure development and repairs in Neringa were insufficient.

However, Deputy Mayor Nerūnas Lendraitis explains that the decision to increase the entrance fee during the summer season is not related to the desire to raise more money in the budget.

“The 2019 results were evaluated: there were impossible car flows and the council based its decision to increase the rate from 20 to 30 euros on the main argument of the flow regulation,” Lendraitis told BNS.

“We live in an area protected by UNESCO, we have the infrastructure we have, we will not make additional sites, the only way we have at our disposal is to increase the toll,” said the deputy mayor.

According to him, local companies were also consulted in this regard: the majority of businessmen supported that decision.

“We also had meetings in the municipality, we consulted with companies. I cannot say that all 100 percent agreed, but I would say that, nevertheless, the vast majority supported it,” said N. Lendraitis.

According to the municipality of Neringa, from May 1 to August 31 of last year, almost 128.3 thousand people entered Neringa. vehicles, when in the summer of 2018 – 111.6 thousand.

In the non-summer season, that is, until June 20 and after August 20, the entrance to Neringa costs 5 euros.
