“The discussions continue, as you know, there was no consensus in the Tripartite Council on the size of the MMA. Currently, the Ministry of Finance is discussing increasing the MMA even more than we had initially talked about, about 703 euros,” said Ms. Navickienė to reporters on Wednesday.
“But the final decisions will be made in October, as in all other periods,” he added.
The Tripartite Council did not reach a consensus on the increase of the MMA and presented different positions to the Government.
“As always, in the tripartite, the unions want higher and even higher wages, and the employers can have a more reserved approach. In this place you have to seek consensus, otherwise the decision will be made by the Government. Now we are here. looking for and calculating real budgetary opportunities, how much that MMA could rise from January ”, said the minister.
Previously, the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Lithuania proposed to increase the MMA by 61 euros (9.5 percent) to 703 euros from next year. MMA now stands at € 642.
Workers’ representatives called for the MMA to be increased to 750 and employers not to increase it until the effects of the pandemic on companies in the country are clear.
The Tripartite Council has agreed that the ratio between MMA and average salary (VMU) should not be less than 45%. and more than 50%, which must correspond to the average of a quarter of the EU countries with the highest ratio between VMU and MMA, which is estimated from the data of the last three years.
The Labor Code stipulates that MMA can only be paid for unskilled work.
Care benefits will also increase
Next year promises to increase care benefits and differentiate them according to the age of the children. euros.

Material incentives are and have been low enough for a long time that we aim to increase them. According to her, the Seimas will decide on increased care benefits in autumn so that the changes take effect in 2022.
