“On July 15, the patient went to the Aleksotas Sector I Admission-Emergency Department of the Psychiatric Clinic of the Republican Hospital Kaunas (RKL). He was consulted by a doctor on duty who determined that the patient needed hospital treatment.
A COVID-19 smear was performed on the patient and he was placed in an isolation room. On July 16, after receiving a negative response to the investigation, the person was transferred to the Mari section of the Psychiatric Clinic.
July 17, the patient refused written treatment and, in the absence of indications for involuntary treatment, he was released from the hospital, “says Raminta Nagelytė, senior specialist in the Department of Communication and Marketing at the Kaunas Republican Hospital, in a comment sent to the Delfi portal.
88 samples were taken, all negative
Three days later, on July 20, the same person was delivered by ambulance to the RKL Reception-Emergency Department at Hipodromo str. 13, with symptoms not related to COVID-19 disease.
“They gave him a COVID-19 smear, the response of which was awaited by the patient at the” dirty “reception of the Admission and Emergency Department in the isolation room. After receiving a positive result, the person was transferred to the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Kaunas Clinical Hospital for additional treatment.
Currently, scheduled patient accommodation in the Laguna sector is limited. Two doctors had close contact with the patient, who are in self-isolation.
In order of priority, COVID-19 tests were performed on 88 employees and patients. So far, all responses received are negative, “said R. Nagelytė, a hospital representative.
Infected after leaving the hospital?
“Because it is unclear who the patient was contacted from the day he was discharged from the Psychiatric Clinic until his readmission to the hospital, we do not believe that he was infected at the treatment center.
The medical institution complies with all the preventive measures of COVID-19: the temperature is measured when the employees and patients arrive at the hospital, the employees use personal protective equipment according to the security levels, preventive tests are carried out on the personnel and patient care is restricted, ”the hospital said.
