This is another glitch of the Starship space rocket prototype. The other two starships exploded on a recent landing.
“Incredible soft landing,” announced a SpaceX commentator during a live broadcast of the test Wednesday, though flames erupted from the underside of the rocket and crews tried to put them out.
After a few minutes, the rocket exploded, leapt into the air, and fell back to the ground.
No explanation has yet been provided.
“The SN10 spacecraft landed healthy!” – About an hour after the explosion in the social network Twitter, joked the founder of SpaceX, the billionaire Elonas Muskas.
The SpaceX team is doing great! One day, the true measure of success will be that Starship flights will be the norm, ”he wrote in a second tweet.
The last rocket prototype, the SN10, took off around 11 pm 20 minutes. Greenwich Mean Time (Thursday 1:20 am Lithuanian) from Boka Chika in Texas.
The rocket ascended to the sky, reaching a height of 10 km, successively switched off its three engines and occupied a horizontal position. It then spun vertically again and returned to Earth.
As the SpaceX images show, the rocket landed correctly in all other respects. Then there was an explosion.
In early February, a prototype SN9 crashed and exploded in an attempt to land vertically on a SpaceX rocket that the company hopes to fly to Mars one day. A similar fate befell the previous prototype SN8 spacecraft in December.
