Soon the NSA will publish the test results: everything will be

Rasa Krasauskienė, the head of the NSA, said that it is still too early to predict the results, but the general trends are already visible: this year’s graduates passed the exams similarly to the previous year’s students. There will be hundreds and not survivors.

Exam assignments received similar evaluations and several reviews. It has been argued that assignments do not reflect current realities, are not adapted to modern students, and require more logical thinking than specific knowledge.

“What is good for one is not good for another, it is always like this,” R. Krasauskienė looked optimistically.

Maturity is difficult to measure.

But how many non-standard tasks could students “cross” over the score? Graduates need to have logical thinking. Task developers: believe in your justice. The exam is not easy, it is not enough to write your first and last name on the worksheet. It takes effort, “he said.

According to R. Krasauskienė, exams are evaluated in a controversial way only because it is difficult to measure the achievements of twelve years. It only takes four hours and the coverage is extensive. It is based on the competencies that each graduate must acquire while studying at school.

“On the other hand, maturity is difficult to measure, so there is a requirement for logical thinking,” he explained.

Tests like driving a car

Sometimes it is argued that the exams do not show a true level of knowledge, it is considered that they may not be necessary at all. “To start driving a car, you must obtain a driver’s license, pass a theory and practice exam. After all, you’re not asking if you need to show a turn by turning right – there are such rules, such requirements, such signs. The same goes for maturity exams, ”he said.

There may be completely different situations on the road than during a driving test. The rules are strict and restrictive, leading to certain physical actions. Assessing certain knowledge and skills is a more complex process, and therefore does not meet everyone’s expectations. As a result, all kinds of reflections arise.

“Naturally, we all want our children to complete the educational program with the best results. Higher education institutions also expect students who have completed higher education not only to have a diploma, but also to apply the skills acquired in their future lives. . General education helps the basics, “he explained.

It was not easy for the evaluators.

Following the announcement of this year’s exam assignments, experts felt that there would be a considerable burden on evaluators when it comes to inspecting student work. However, R. Krasauskienė said that he had to communicate with the evaluators: the process was successful.

“Of course, it is very difficult to evaluate a literary essay. It is as if a work of art is beautiful for some, not for others. Different approaches, complex processes, but the best teachers in the country contributed to the evaluations. True, it was not easy, as it was every year, “he said of the difficulties.

Graduates are positive after exams, but are often disappointed when they get results.

“We all want to be prettier, slimmer, or smarter, but we are not always successful. Students who come to the exam should show what they have learned best, focus on that. But … there is always a second chance, you can go back to take the exam in a year or two, “urged R. Krasauskienė not to dramatize, adding that those who work hard and consistently achieve the best results. There are a lot of talented people in Lithuania.

Education is a stagnant field.

But the general trends are not so gratifying. International research shows that student performance and learning levels deteriorate. However, R. Krasauskienė is not inclined to trust them blindly.

“When it comes to cooperation with school principals and foreign colleagues: the impact of technology is negatively assessed across Europe, young people are interested in other things.” Education is a somewhat stagnant field today, everyone needs a breakthrough, “said the interlocutor.

According to her, it is impossible to achieve this in a short time: systematic changes are required, large investments at the state level. “Student achievement is not among the worst. Even moderately gifted students in foreign schools demonstrate that they are face to face in those countries of the same age. It is most likely a matter of attitude.” a lot of effort, exam evaluation is episodic, “he said.

The mathematics exam is one of the biggest challenges for students in the country: a few years ago, it became compulsory to study in higher education.

“In Lithuania, we have a problem with the exact sciences, as shown by PISA (the results of a fifteen-year international survey). Mathematics is not a favorite thing, it requires a lot of work. Although professions in the field of science are in demand Exactly, high salaries are offered, but reluctantly chosen. I would like to believe that the renewal of general education content in mathematics instruction will reveal changes that will encourage students to choose mathematics, “he hoped.

It is better for students to learn interesting, engaging and engaging things. However, according to the NSA chief, it is not as bad as we sometimes help.
