Sodra reminds the self-employed: it is important to pay contributions in January

The amendments to the Social Security Sickness and Maternity Law will come into force in February, which stipulates that self-employed residents are considered insured for sickness and maternity social insurance if they have paid state social insurance contributions and have submitted an SAV notification to Sodra on a person employed during a calendar month, one month before the right to the benefit.

This means, for example, that fathers of mothers on maternity leave taking parental or parental leave in February will only receive Sodra benefits if they have paid their January social security contributions and have submitted an SAV notification. Likewise, sickness benefits for the self-employed who fall ill in February will only be granted if they have contributed in January. In addition, you must have completed the required duration of social insurance for sickness and maternity.

It is up to the resident to choose the amount of contributions to pay.

Otherwise, self-employed residents would receive these benefits only in 2022 if they declared income for 2021 and paid social security contributions, if they had acquired the required duration of illness or social maternity insurance.

Furthermore, maternity social security benefits are no longer reduced on the basis of income from self-employment.
